A Sankey diagram requires a dimensional data model due to its intricate representation of data flows between different entities. This type of diagram is utilized to visualize the proportional distribution of quantities.
If an item within a dimension is null, for example, let's assume the "Corporate" segment is null, then the Sankey diagram will interpret this as a skipped level. In such instances, the link or flow will bypass the "Corporate" segment entirely and connect directly from the preceding dimension, such as the category, to the following dimension, like the ship mode.
