# Surrounding text

The **Surrounding Text** feature allows you to add **titles, instructions, links, or even images** above or around form fields, making your form more user-friendly, descriptive, and visually structured.

#### What it does

With Surrounding Text, you can:

* Add a **custom title** above any input field
* Provide **instructions or guidance** below or beside the field
* Include **HTML elements** like links, icons, or even inline images
* Visually group related fields into sections

#### Example: Company Name Field

Here’s an example where **surrounding text is used** to add a custom heading and description for a “Company Name” input:

* **Title**: `Company.`
* **Instruction**: `Tell us your company name!`
* **Input Field**: Free text input for company name

This makes the form easier to understand and more welcoming for users.

#### Why it's useful:

* Helps users understand form sections quickly
* Reduces input errors
* Enhances accessibility and visual clarity

> ✅ **Tip:** Combine this with Conditional Visibility to show different descriptions based on user selection.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.infotopics.com/writebackextreme/features/tableau-extension/configuration/schemas/general-features/surrounding-text.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
