# OAuth Authentication

As of version 4.1 we introduced multiple ways to connect to snowflake.

1. It is no longer required to configure a ODBC DSN. Only the name of the ODBC driver is needed to connect trough odbc.
2. We also support connecting through OAuth instead of username/password

## Snowflake OAuth

To connect to snowflake trough OAuth, a [custom client integration](https://docs.snowflake.com/en/user-guide/oauth-custom) in snowflake is needed. The steps needed to set this up are explained in the management console on the add connection screen as shown below.

{% hint style="info" %}
To use the oauth functionality on Windows, please update the odbc driver to the latest version.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
An access token is valid for 10 minutes by default in snowflake. WriteBackExtreme will request a token every 8 minutes in the background.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Do not create multiple connections with the same integration.
{% endhint %}
