# Metadata formatting
For all set ups, where KPI cards are defined by dimensions, PowerKPIs has also an option to **set metric formats programmatically**. Especially in scenarios, where a large number of KPI cards needs to be displayed, and KPIs frequently change in addition, this can be a huge time saver.
Selecting the Assign Formats From Metadata option will open the Field Mapping view to map metric attributes to data fields.
Use metadata formatting option
To use this option, you need to define metric metadata like this and add it to detail on the marks cards.
Required format for metadata
Then simply map the metric attributes to the fields.
